NSRA Safety Inspections ~ Saturday, June 13, 2020 ~ Exhaust Pros, Pierre, SD

Street Masters

From Dave Hausmann:

“After much consideration, and meetings with the NSRA (National Street Rod Association), Dennis and Marty Ottenbacher, and the Street Masters’ board of directors, we have decided to go ahead and move forward with the annual safety inspections.

NSRA has cancelled all of their events this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that includes their nation-wide safety inspection program. However, Gary Kreun (SD Lead safety inspector for NSRA and my supervisor) and I felt that out here in South Dakota we could still go ahead and perform the inspections and make sure our member’s vehicles were safe to operate for another year. The NSRA Regional Safety Inspector out of Minneapolis has agreed to let us go ahead with the inspections if we used the following restrictions.

The NSRA safety inspections are going to be held next Saturday, June 13th at Exhaust Pros in Pierre starting at 9:00 am. and ending at 5:00 pm. Even though they have retired, Dennis and Marty Ottenbacher have agreed to host the event again this year. However, due to the COVID-19 concerns and required social distancing, this year we will be required to “limit the involvement” of club members during the inspections. NSRA strongly recommended that the owner remain in the vehicle during the inspection and no other members assist during the inspections like has been done in years past. Dennis will be operating the hoists and helping me inspect the vehicles. Dennis and I respect your views and the concerns you may have with this virus, so if you prefer to wear a mask or bring your own pen that’s cool with us. I will wear a mask beings I will probably be within 6’ of you while performing the inspection, filling in forms, etc.

I think that beings the focus will only be on the inspection and by not having our typical group involvement during the inspections, each inspection should only take around 10 minutes or less. So in saying that, you shouldn’t have to wait very long if you stop down and there are already two cars on the hoists. (Dennis will be operating both hoists.) The parking lot at the cleaners may be a good staging area, but remember to adhere to the social distancing requirements or better yet, just roll down your windows and visit with each other that way.

For all new members and those who are unfamiliar with the NSRA safety inspection program, I’ll explain what is involved.
1. The inspections are free.
2. The inspections cover 23 different items such as lights, brakes, steering joints, etc.
3. The inspections are conducted to make sure that your vehicle is safe and that nothing has come loose or is in need of repair.
4. The inspections are not performed to criticize or find fault with your vehicle, it’s construction etc.
5. The inspections are performed to make sure that everything is okay and hopefully avoid any problems that may happen during your street rodding season.

So come on down to Exhaust Pros Saturday, June 13th any time between 9:00 and 5:00 for a free NSRA Safety Inspection.

Thanks for understanding this year’s inspection restrictions, stay safe and will see ya Saturday, June 13th,
Dave………..

PS. And don’t forget the Sioux Avenue cruise later on the same day.”
