Marlene Ward was born on November 9, 1951 to Arnie and Mildred Voog in Sioux Falls, SD on their diversified farm which raised livestock, guinea hens, grain, and marketed produce.
During her youth, Marlene was in chorus, played flute in band, a member of FHA, in 4-H raising cattle, grade and registered Hampshire sheep, and gardening.
Marlene attended Viborg grade school and then transferred to Centerville as a 5th grader due to re-districting, graduating from Centerville High School in 1970. She then attended Dakota State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She found employment in the educational and business fields. Marlene and Alan were married on August 2, 1974 and a few years later she began raising sons, Michael and Daniel, as a stay a home Mom enjoying every minute of it! She make sure they participated in 4-H, too! They worshipped faithfully with the former United Methodist Church which is now Bethel Christian Fellowship in Viborg and participated in congregational activities including teaching Sunday School.
The four of them would take a summer trip to Omaha or Minneapolis/St. Paul, Placerville Family Camp in the Black Hills, to the South Dakota State Fair, or someplace else just to get away and see other places. Marlene loved to explore new territory and the kids were always happy to oblige!
Marlene was preceded in death by her brother Arlan, her parents Arnie and Mildred Voog, her in laws, Robert and Ethel Ward, and 2 sisters in law, Nancy Ward and Rhea Erickson.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Alan; 2 sons, Michael (Emily) and Daniel; 7 grandchildren, Joseph, Henry, Marshall, Christian, Landon, Haley and Mason; 2 brothers in law, Gary Ward and Jeff Erickson; and a host of cousins, friends and relatives!
Please keep the Ward family in your thoughts and prayers.
